Organisers of the Forres Highland Games are calling on volunteers to get involved.

The Forres Highland Games will take place in Grant Park on July 6 and those involved in the day are asking for the community to lend a hand.

With over 250 competitors taking part in numerous events, nine pipe bands and over 50 stallholders, more helpers are required to ensure the day runs smoothly.

Mike Scott, secretary of the Forres Highland Games said: “This is a great opportunity to get involved in an event that has been part of the community for decades. The Forres Highland Games is a great day out and we know that as well as being able to provide some much-needed help, the volunteers will also undoubtedly enjoy themselves.”

He added: “We have hundreds of competitors taking part on the day in numerous events which include a 10K road race, the main traditional Highland Games events such as tossing the caber and the shot-put, Highland dancing and we also have the massed pipe bands. We also have a number of trade stalls, and then of course our visitors. All of this needs some kind of management.

“We are mainly requiring people to help with marshalling, but we also have questionnaires for the public to gauge feedback on the event, people to ensure the park stays looking tidy and of course, people generally to be there to help provide our thousands of visitors with any information.”

Games Day commences at midday on July 6 with Forres and District Pipe Band starting off proceedings with a procession through the centre of the Moray town before the Games’ flag is raised above the arena with events starting at 12.30pm.

During the day, visitors can also enjoy fairground attractions, a beer tent, solo piping and other activities.

This year’s Chieftain has been chosen as John Channon MBE, chairman of the Forres and District Pipe Band.

John is no stranger to the Forres Games having not only played with the band at the event but having previously competed in the high jump and sprint.
